**On 1st February 2010 the Cyprus Business Women (CBW) celebrated their first Anniversary, hosted by foreign exchange specialists Currency Solutions Ltd. A fabulous turn-out from members from all regions joined in to celebrate the success of the CBW and reflect on the year’s rapid development since the launch in February 2009.**
The Cyprus Business Women Group was co-founded in February 2009 by Janice Ruffle and Margaret Efstathiou. Since the launch in Paphos, a rapid expansion has developed with regional groups forming in Larnaca by Sandra Augusti Bra4Me and Jenny Fram AngloINFO in Limassol. There will also be a regional Group in Nicosia in the very near future.
Cyprus Business Women come together to gather and share resources, business advice and useful information. The network aims to attract women from all areas of business to include a variety of professions. The groups drive to support women in business is significant to the health of the economy in Cyprus as well as the vibrancy of an expanding business culture.
There are many business women in Cyprus who will benefit from networking with other women in business not only here in Cyprus but also in other countries, which is one of the group’s prime objectives.

The Founders would like to express their gratitude to Currency Solutions for the use of their offices as the venue for the 1st Anniversary event and for the provision of beverages. Currency Solutions Ltd specialise in foreign currency exchange, helping private and corporate clients plus our business affiliates clients achieve better than bank exchange rates, reduce costs and provide speedy international payments worldwide. The company’s Cyprus office will be celebrating their five year anniversary in March 2010, testament to their service delivery and resounding success. Moving to the newly located office in November 2008, has now provided further opportunity for expansion during 2010 by adding a new department to further support their new product offering.
Nicky Kirby of Cyprus Images took the photographs during the event. Nicky is an avid supporter of CBW and a professional wedding and portrait photographer, based in Paphos. She travels all over the island for weddings during the season, working independently but extensively with wedding planners, to provide the best service to brides and grooms, to try to ensure that their Cyprus Wedding is a truly memorable occasion.
When she is not photographing weddings, she does portrait work for families, newborn babies and also pets. She also provides a photographic service for website producers, to help increase the impact of their sites. “I have been a member of Cyprus Business Women pretty much from the start. It provides me with a valuable way of meeting new contacts, both for business and socially. I have received referrals and direct contracts, it is a way of increasing business and raising my profile,” says Nicky.
#Master-Design Celebration Cake
A delicious and master-design celebration cake was donated by Jackie Kuflik of Love Island Cakes, whose creative skills focused on the CBW “Lady Logo” as the untouchable topping-display. In the UK, Jackie had her own cake decorating business and her knowledge and experience is extended by her activities in the Cake Decorating and Sugarcraft world, as teacher, author, examiner and judge. Her abilities have taken her all over the world, setting up a school of Sugarcraft for the Meiji-Kinenkan in Tokyo as well as judging and teaching in various countries. Arriving in Cyprus, Jackie saw a gap in the market – individually designed cakes which has resulted in the opening of Love Island Cakes in Paphos, meeting a unique niche in the marketplace.
Member You Kay’s generously supplied UK branded products of nibbles and cookies and Veronicards’ member arrived with a colourful “1st Anniversary” balloon display.
#BNI Cyprus – Power of Networking
Christina Maddocks, BNI Cyprus attended as a VIP Guest and communicated to the Group the power of networking. Her achievements in Cyprus in uniting professionals through the objective of BNI networking has proven highly successful.
“It was a memorable event and one that will mark our first year, demonstrating how women support each other on all levels,” concluded the Founders.
The Group is looking forward to another successful year networking with professional women.
