Sterling climbs ahead of hectic week
The pound climbed slightly today ahead of a busy week of corporate and economic data in the UK.
This morning the dollar was at 1.8923 against the pound while the euro was at 1.4687 against sterling.
Today sees the Department for Communities and Local Government release its house price index for March 2006, while Rightmove will also publish a report on the property market.
On Tuesday BAA will release its annual results, while Compass Group will announce its interim results.
Tomorrow also sees the De Vere Group announce its financial interim results for 2006 as well as InterContinental Hotels.
All eyes will be on the retail giant J Sainsbury on Wednesday as it releases preliminary figures.
More retail news arrives on Thursday in the shape of Boots' interim results, while BT will release its full year results the same day.
National Grid Transco and SABMiller, one of the world's largest brewers, will also be publishing results.
Nationwide's annual results are out on Thursday, before European banking group BNP Paribas issues its results for the first quarter 2006 on Friday.
