Sterling has hovered around the same mark after a difficult period last week, with a raft of company data set to help shape the market this week.

This morning the dollar stood at 1.7441 to the pound while the euro was at 1.4605.

Encouraging news on British house prices and a positive tone from the Bank of England helped settle the currency this afternoon.

This week sees Barclays release its annual results, while food retail giant Cadbury Schweppes will announce its 2005 preliminary results.

Schroders, the asset management company will publish its annual results, while Anglo American will release its 2005 annual results on Wednesday.

Centrica will announce its 2005 full year results on Thursday, with Gap releasing its earnings for the fourth quarter 2005 on the same day.

Heavy building materials company Hanson will publish preliminary results, with the Hilton Group, Nestlé and Reuters all also publishing data.

On Friday Alliance & Leicester will provisionally release its preliminary results today while another major financial firm, Lloyds TSB, will announce its financial results for 2005 as well.
