Sterling gains ahead of company data
The pound was up this morning as analysts prepared for a busy week of company activity in the UK.
This morning the euro was at 1.4462 against sterling, while the dollar reached 1.7884.
Today sees Novartis release its financial results for the first quarter of 2006, as will Renault, the car manufacturer.
On Tuesday rival Volvo will also publish its Q1 2006 results. On the same day energy giant BP will issue its results for the first quarter, with the FTSE likely to register any change in fortunes.
Wednesday sees Boeing issue its results for the first quarter, while Honda will be the third car manufacturer updating on its performance this week, issuing its fourth quarter financial results. DaimlerChrysler is also releasing data later in the week.
Imperial Tobacco, Legal & General and Reuters will also be releasing trading statements this week.
Finally, Thursday heralds a very busy day starting with insurance group Aviva, who are detailing first quarter 2006 business figures.
Bayer will issue its first quarter results, as well fellow pharmaceutical firm AstraZeneca and GlaxoSmithKline.
