The US dollar is currently trading as Zimbabwe's currency, but president Robert Mugabe has other plans in mind. He is in strong favour of the South African country bringing back its own national currency because of the scarcity of the US dollar to the majority of the Zimbabwean people.
Zimbabwe had allowed the use of multiple foreign currencies in January to extend hyperinflation over 230 million percent. The severity of hyperinflation left the Zimbabwe dollar practically worthless and created unimaginable suffering to rural people who have no access to the dollar and South African rand that were circulating.
The urge in Zimbabwe to bring back their old national currency has the US dollar exchanging at GBP1.6558 and EUR1.4054.
